If you’re interested in history, archaeology or sociology - or just want bragging rights - then a visit to Pompeii is essential when in Rome. Our day trip transports you out of the city and into the shell of ancient Rome, traveling by private air-conditioned minivan of course! You’ll be accompanied by an expert, English-speaking driver as well as an expert archaeologist guide on-site.
Pompeii was a holiday resort for Romans, but tragedy struck in 79 A.D. when Mount Vesuvius erupted, burying the area under layers upon layers of ash and pumice. Pompeii was frozen in time, with everything left as it was. Some people managed to escape, taking with them the things they could carry, but others were struck down and bodies were discovered hundreds of years later, looking like they were just walking to one of the shops, villas, brothels or public baths in the town. Now a much-visited archaeological site, the history of Pompeii is a fascinating one.
You’ll have our Skip-the-Line access to the archaeological site, so you don’t need to wait in line or hang around to get in and see everything this incredible space has to offer. You’ll have an expert tour guide with you, helping you discover this open-air museum and see what remains here - you’ll hear anecdotes from ancient Rome, learn about the incredible discoveries historians have made, and get to see what life was really like during this fascinating time period.
See the frescos on the walls, discover ancient graffiti, marvel at the columns, statues and even Pompeii’s very own arena. There are hidden gems everywhere here, and you’ll get to see them all on this brilliant day trip.
But that’s not all. Next, you’ll head towards Positano on the Amalfi Coast - this is one of the most scenic areas in Italy, and a real jewel in the crown of your Italian vacation. This pretty town is like something out of a postcard; colorful fishing houses, views of the bright blue sea, a mountain backdrop… it has everything you could want, and you’ll spend two hours of free time here to do as you please. Buy some souvenirs, treat yourself to a nice lunch or simply soak up the peace and quiet.
Your final stop will be a traditional Limoncello shop in Positano, where you’ll get to try this famous Italian delicacy. This is a zesty liqueur, something enjoyed right across the country - can you face the mixture of sweet and sour?! It’s a great way to end your Pompeii and Positano day trip from Rome, and you’ll head back to the city feeling totally fulfilled.
